Mary Guise
(March 25, 1917 - March 28, 2012)
Mary Guise, 95, of Lansdale, formerly of Mt. Carmel, PA, went to meet her Lord March 28, 2012 at Elm Terrace Gardens, Lansdale. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cletus Burns, who died in 1958, and her second husband, Charles “Dutch” Guise, who died in 1980.
Born March 25, 1917 in Mt. Carmel, Mary was the daughter of the late Thomas E. and Mary Anna (Sluzalis) Haleman. Mrs. Guise was a longtime member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. She had a passion for crafting, and she taught herself the art of knitting and crocheting and also painting. Mary was a skilled seamstress; she lovingly created wedding gowns and bridesmaids dresses, and in later years, she designed and built dolls and their clothing. She made many delicious birthday and wedding cakes. A diehard Phillies fan, Mary loved watching baseball every night. Her greatest joy, however, was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mary is survived by two children, Rosemary Schlegel and her husband, Herbert, of North Wales, and Cletus Burns and his wife, Nancy, of Lansdale; a son-in-law, Kenneth Morris, of North Wales; eight grandchildren; and fourteen beloved great-grandchildren. In addition to her husbands, Mrs. Guise was preceded in death by a daughter, Loretta Morris, and her brother and sister-in-law, Edward and Mary Haleman. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 AM Saturday, March 31, 2012 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, 51 Lansdale Ave., Lansdale, PA 19446, where friends may greet the family after 9:30 AM. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, North Wales. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mary’s memory to Elm Terrace Gardens, Attn: Skilled Care Pavilion, 660 North Broad Street, Lansdale, PA 19446. Arrangements are by Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, Lansdale.
