Joan S. Berkheiser, 75, of Lansdale, died March 29, 2017. She was the wife of the late John J. Berkheiser, Sr., who died September 2, 1985.
Born February 19, 1942 in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Alberta (Broom) and Howard M. Schenkel, Sr.
Joan graduated from Cheltenham High School with the Class of 1960. She was a dedicated homemaker and child care provider throughout her adult life. An avid animal activist, she was also a proud member of the Audubon Society.
Survivors include her children, Tracey L. Cliver (Michael, Sr.) of Lansdale, and John "Jay" Berkheiser, Jr. (Christy) of Schwenksville; six grandchildren, Erin, Bridget, Michael Jr., Candace, Ryan, and Tyler; and her brother, Howard "Bud" Schenkel (Grace) of Tennessee.
She was preceded in death by her fiancé, Charles O. "Chuck" Rieger.
Relatives and friends may call after 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, 701 Derstine Ave., Lansdale, followed by the Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Lawnview Cemetery, Rockledge.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in Joan's memory to the Alley Cat Allies, 7920 Norfolk Ave., Suite 600, Bethesda, MD 20814.
