Reverend Dr. Thomas Michael, April 1, 1933-August 25, 2020.
Fulbright scholar 1955, professor emeritus Rowan University, retired Presbyterian clergyman, he departed this life peacefully in Gwynedd, PA.
He was born and raised in northern Indiana and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Wabash College. He studied Theology at University of Marburg, Germany, completed his M. Div. at New York's Union Theological Seminary, and earned a PhD in organizational development (group psychology) at Drexel University. For most of his career—after 14 years as a member of the Presbytery and pastor of several churches—he was on the faculty of Rowan University, where he was instrumental in the creation of the MBA program. During his early years as a minister, he was a participant in and advocate for Civil Rights and social justice, reflecting the compassionate and people-oriented values he had all his life.
An optimistic, good-humored extrovert who was nonetheless a voracious bookworm. Tom loved to talk, teach, sing, golf, travel, participate in his church and Foulkeways community, and spend time with friends and family. Later in life his interests included social dreaming, Rene Girard, and the International Society for the Psychoanalytic Study of Organizations.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Bonnie Jo, his children Ann, Judith, John, and four adult grandchildren, all of whom will miss him very much.
Due to COVID-19, a memorial service will be held at Calvary Presbyterian in Wyncote, PA and streamed for remote attendees on September 19th, 2020.
