Alfred A. Miller

Jan 10, 1941 — Jul 27, 2022

Alfred Alan Miller, age 81, recently of Upper Gwynedd, PA, passed away July 27, 2022. He is survived by his wife Joan, his sisters Francis Peterson of Warminster, PA, and Edith Lipinski of Concord, MA. Al was predeceased by his parents Charles "Bud" and Ruth Miller, of Philadelphia, and his brothers, Harold and Robert.

He will be greatly missed by his children Andrew Miller, husband of Jacqueline, Abby Claypoole, wife of Shawn, and Brian Miller. He is also survived by the mother of his children, Barbara (Meyer) Stratton.

Joan's children Michael Austin of Huntersville, NC, husband of Leigh, and Jennifer Austin of Hatfield, PA were very important in his life as well.  Al and Joan shared the joy of seven grandchildren:  Evan Miller,  Elise Miller, Morgan Claypoole, Ellie Claypoole, Austin Sermania,  Johnny Sermania, and Emma Austin.

Al grew up in Philadelphia where he attended Frankford High School. After graduating from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1962 with an engineering degree, he started his career as a field engineer with PECO. In his 39 years at Philadelphia Electric, he rose through the ranks to the position of Director of Rates, with time to enjoy retirement.

In retirement Al and Joan built their dream home on the eastern shore of the Chesapeake. Al enjoyed keeping his yard perfect and his garage and workshop meticulously organized.  Al was a Dessert Enthusiast and never missed an opportunity to enjoy a glass of wine during a sunset on the water with his loving wife by his side. He shared his boat and home with family and friends and enjoyed vacations in St. John with their great friends Rich and Maggie Hermann.

Following in the Miller family tradition, Al always kept busy in his wood shop, whether it was general repairs or woodworking projects. He built a roll top desk, bookshelves, cedar chest, fireplace mantels, and worked diligently on Joan's "Honey Do List."

Our family is grateful to know that Al is at peace. We appreciate our family and friends' thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Al's family plans a private gathering of immediate family. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to The ALS Association Greater Philadelphia Chapter, 321 Norristown Road - Suite 260 - Ambler, PA 19002.
