Arlin D. Shisler

February 24, 1930 — May 24, 2026

Arlin Derstine Shisler, 96, of Lansdale, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2026, at Dock Woods Community at Living Branches.  He was the husband of Esther (Ruth) Shisler, his wife of 48 years, and the late Beulah P. Shisler.

Born on February 24, 1930, in Souderton, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Claude Moyer Shisler and Susanna Derstine Shisler.

Mr. Shisler was a graduate of Souderton High School, Class of 1948, and attended Goshen College.

Arlin worked as a painting contractor for more than 50 years, including 40 years as owner of Arlin D. Shisler Painting. He earned a reputation throughout the North Penn area for exceptional craftsmanship, professionalism, and integrity while serving homeowners, businesses, and churches.

Arlin was a devoted member of Plains Mennonite Church, where he served in various leadership roles, including Chair of Church Council and the Property Committee.  He was also a member of The Kiwanis Club of Lansdale for 52 years.

A lifelong lover of classical and choral music, Arlin sang for many years in church and community choirs, including the Franconia-Lancaster Choral Singers.  He and Esther shared a love of travel and adventure, exploring more than 60 countries together over the course of their marriage. Arlin and Esther enjoyed attending many museums and concerts, learning about world cultures.

Arlin enjoyed a wide variety of interests throughout his life, including coin collecting, birdwatching, automobiles, and reading biographies. He was especially passionate about family and local history and delighted in sharing that knowledge with others, often leading family members on driving tours of local heritage sites.

Guided by his faith, Arlin found great purpose in serving others. Whether through his church, community organizations, or quiet acts of kindness, he was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need, including taking people to medical and other appointments. In more recent years, he lovingly cared for his wife, Esther, as her vision declined.

Family and friends will remember Arlin not only for his many accomplishments, but also for his thoughtful perspective, ready smile, and understated wit. His calm strength, generous spirit, and unwavering devotion to faith and family leave an enduring legacy in the lives of those fortunate enough to know him.

In addition to his wife Esther, he is survived by his daughters, Brenda L. Wall (Christopher) of Green Lane and Donna G. Speakman (William) of Harrisburg; his son, Karl E. Shisler (Bernadette) of Guam; his daughter-in-law, Audrey Shisler of Hanover; his sister, Ruth Bunton of New Holland; six grandchildren, Diane Wall Flint, Adam Speakman, Sarah Schwartz, Leah Stone, Ryan Shisler, and Isaiah Shisler; and four great-grandchildren, Theodore, Liliana, and Lukas Flint, and Willow Schwartz.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Kent Shisler; his grandson, Joshua Wall; his sister, Emily Lapp; his brother, Harold Shisler; his stepmother, Naomi S. Derstine Shisler; and Beulah P. Shisler, the mother of his children.

Relatives and friends may call after 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 13, 2026 at Plains Mennonite Church, 50 W. Orvilla Road, Hatfield, followed by the Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m.  Burial will be private in the church cemetery.  Arrangements are by the Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, Inc.
