Bruce Edward Nickell

January 5, 1941 — November 13, 2024

Bruce Edward Nickell, age 83, passed away peacefully in his sleep on November 13, 2024, with Carol, his wife of 62 years, by his side.  Bruce was raised in East Falls, PA and was a graduate of Roxborough High School and Delaware Valley College.  After graduating Bruce and Carol settled in Lansdale Pa, where they raised their four daughters and many pets!

Bruce was hired in the research department of Merck right out of college and retired as executive director of safety assessment in 2002. He cherished his business trips to France and Japan to ensure new overseas laboratories met US FDA standards. He was also blessed to have wonderful lifelong friendships with the people he worked with and even had the good fortune to work with his brother, Jack.

Bruce was an avid outdoorsman. He spent his youth with his cousins in Vermont, where he developed a passion for hunting and fishing.  He shared his love of nature with Carol and his girls taking them on family camping trips in their trailer that took them all over the US.

His family expanded over the years to include four sons-in-law and 11 grandchildren. His children and grandchildren cherish their memories of swimming in their grandparents' pool, enjoying weekend dinners and summer barbecues, and holiday gatherings where they were spoiled immensely!

In 1984, Bruce and Carol bought a house in Avalon, NJ and he fulfilled his dream of having a fishing boat. He greatly enjoyed time with his family at the shore house and on his boat.

In addition to his love of the outdoors Bruce had many hobbies. He loved wood working, painting, and in his younger years, playing his accordion and working on cars. He was a lifelong learner, with an intellectual curiosity that kept his mind busy, even when his body was failing him. He spent many hours reading and then listening to audio books when his eyesight did not allow him to read. He was a man of great integrity, strength, and devotion to his wife and family.

Bruce will be dearly missed by his wife Carol, their children Kimberly (Bob), Karen (Kurt), Jennifer (Bob), and Amy (Jason) and their grandchildren Katie, Scott, Ryan, Kristen, Kelsey, Kaelyn, Ashley, Gavin, Macy, Roxy, and Myles, and his siblings, Jack Nickell and Nancy Ragno.

Relatives and friends may call after 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 27, 2024 at Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, 701 Derstine Ave., Lansdale, followed by the Funeral Service at 12:30 p.m.  Interment will be private.
