Bruce H. Thompson

July 8, 1935 — August 22, 2025

Bruce H. Thompson, 90, of Ambler, PA, died Friday, August 22, 2025.  He was the beloved husband of Elizabeth (Grant) Thompson, his wife of 68 years.  Born July 8, 1935, in Rochester, NY, he was a son of the late J. Frank and Louise (Manwaring) Thompson.

Bruce was raised in Penfield, NY and attended the University of Rochester where he graduated in 1956. Bruce began his career as a salesman for IBM and Honeywell, which evolved into a four-decade career in the computer leasing business, culminating in his position as President of Com-Lease, Inc. and BW Financial Corp.

Bruce and Betty married in 1957 and recently celebrated their 68th anniversary.  Bruce's career led them to several different cities including Buffalo, NY; Springfield, VA; Pittsburgh, PA; Reston, VA; Barrington, IL; Potomac, MD; Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ; and Jackson, NJ. Betty and Bruce collected lifelong friends at every stop and enjoyed staying in touch through golf trips and neighborhood reunions.

In 2018, Betty and Bruce moved to ACTS Spring House in Ambler, PA where Bruce served as President of the Spring House Resident's Association and enjoyed Wednesday afternoon men's club, singing with "The Trio" and playing bridge.

A lifelong athlete, Bruce was inducted into both the Penfield High School and University of Rochester Athletic Halls of Fame for his stellar basketball and baseball careers. He also took great joy in the game of golf and was an avid professional sports fan.

More than anything, Bruce loved his family and cherished every opportunity to be surrounded by his family, usually in his signature plaid pants.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his loving daughters, Kathryn T. Lynch (Jim) of Salem, VA; Lisa T. Guyer (Greg) of Flourtown, PA; Patricia T. Craver (Tom) of Bethesda, MD; and Wendy T. Simon (Adam) of Fairfield, CT; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandson; and two brothers, Jay Thompson (Elaine) of Penfield, NY, and Robert Thompson (Anne) of Pittsford, NY.

Relatives and friends may gather after 2:30 p.m. Thursday, September 4, 2025, at Spring House Estates, 728 Norristown Road, Ambler, followed by a Celebration of Life at 3:00 p.m. A reception to follow will be held at Sunnybrook Golf Club, 398 Stenton Avenue, Plymouth Meeting.

Interment will be private in Greenfield Hill Congregational Church Memorial Garden in Fairfield, CT.  Arrangements are by the Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, Lansdale.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in Mr. Thompson's memory to the Spring House Samaritan Fund at: Spring House Estates Samaritan Fund
