Catherine "Kay" Tuhacek

Oct 2, 1929 — Jul 17, 2026

Harleysville, PA

Catherine “Kay” Tuhacek, 96, of Harleysville, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 17, 2026. She was the beloved wife of the late Edward E. Tuhacek, who died in 2008.

Kay was born on October 2, 1929 in Philadelphia, PA. She grew up in the Olney section of Philadelphia, the daughter of Catherine (Mossop) and Russell Kiefriter, along with siblings, William (Bill), Russell and Marlane.

Kay’s early life growing up during the Depression was full of happy memories of her enjoying life’s simple pleasures, occasionally visiting New Jersey relatives and the “country” outside the Philadelphia suburbs. She often remarked “No one told us we were poor!” and thus she never felt “poor”.

During World War II, she began her working life doing office work. A colleague invited her to church where a faith was ignited in her that would define and govern the rest of her life.

After the war, she married Edward Tuhacek on October 18, 1952. Together they welcomed daughter, Carol and sons, Edward and Donald. They raised their family in Roslyn, PA where Kay happily settled into the work of raising her family. Kay and Ed were very involved at Enfield Gospel Chapel of Oreland, PA, where their strong faith was fostered and on full display. Kay spent many years teaching Sunday school.

Kay loved to read a good book and much preferred the slow-paced mountains to the busy seashore. Her mountain cabin near Benton, PA was the site of happy memories for all who visited. Few trips were complete without a visit to Knoebel's Grove, and Ricketts Glen to hike or swim.

In later life, Kay was deeply content and appreciative of her circumstances, often remarking upon the full life she enjoyed and the family with which she was blessed. Her most quoted verse became Psalm 16:6 "The boundary lines have fallen to me in pleasant places; surely I have a delightful inheritance." Above all, Kay looked forward to the thrill of finally meeting Jesus face to face, the thrill of a lifetime!

Survivors include her children, Carol E. Woodring (John) of Unionville, PA, Edward J. Tuhacek (Kathy) of Harleysville, and Donald J. Tuhacek (Carla) of Eagleville; ten grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests those who wish to make a memorial donation to direct funds to these projects to which Kay tirelessly dedicated many hours: Child Evangelism Fellowship (www.cefonline.com) and Emmaus Worldwide Ministry (www.emmausworldwide.org).

Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 24, 2026 at Hillside Cemetery, 2556 Susquehanna Road, Roslyn. Arrangements are by the Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, Lansdale.
