Charles William Swartley

Charles W. "Chuck" Swartley, 96, of Lansdale, died Tuesday, July 7, 2026. He was the beloved husband of the late Mary Jane (Thompson) Swartley, who died May 27, 2020.

Born May 10, 1930 in Doylestown, he was a son of the late Arthur and Grace (Weisel) Swartley.

Chuck graduated from Ursinus College, and received a M.Div from Nazarene Theological Seminary, in Kansas City, MO. He led several churches early in his career. Later, Mr. Swartley was employed as a manager with Sears for 36 years. He was active with a number of local churches and was a dedicated volunteer with the United Way. He was an avid sailor and golfer and longtime member of Surf City Yacht Club, in New Jersey, serving as Commodore there in 1978.

Later, he and his wife resided in Bradenton, Florida where they were active golfing and as members of the Welsh Society of Sarasota.

Survivors include his sons, Charles W. Swartley Jr. (Christine) of Beaverton, OR, Timothy R. Swartley of Chalfont, and Randall P. Swartley (Kristin) of Cinnaminson, NJ; and two grandchildren, Evan Swartley of Cinnaminson, and Keith Swartley of Raleigh, NC.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Arthur C. Swartley Jr; and sister, Elizabeth (Swartley) Stover.

Graveside services will be held 1:30 p.m. Friday, July 17, 2026 at Whitemarsh Memorial Park, Ambler.
