Clare E. Matlack

July 22, 1945 — February 16, 2025

Clare E. Matlack of Collegeville passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 16, 2025. She was the loving wife of Henry "Hank" Matlack, with whom she shared over 50 years of marriage.

Born on July 22, 1945 in Chester, Clare was the youngest daughter of the late William J. Sabol and Marie (Missar) Sabol.

In addition to her husband, Clare is survived by her children: Beth Jennings (Gary) of Newburgh, NY, and Todd Matlack (Karen) of Doylestown; her beloved grandchildren: Sara, Kayla, Trevor, and Caitlyn; her sister, Marie Hackstie: her brothers-in-law, Gerald Fritz and Dennis Matlack (Eileen); as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her siblings: Dorothy Iacono, Rita Fritz, and William Sabol Jr., her brothers-in-law Hank Hackstie and John Iacono, and her nephew Greg Hackstie.

Clare thoroughly enjoyed her time at Notre Dame High School. She thrived academically, led many extracurricular activities both in and out of school, and was a regular contributor to her community. Upon graduation, she continued her studies and obtained a degree from St. Joseph's University. After spending many years raising a family, she returned to work as a bookkeeper and office manager for various companies in the Hudson Valley of New York and in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.

Throughout her life, Clare dedicated time to volunteer work, including parent teacher organizations, and as president of a local craft group. Upon retiring, on a weekly basis, she attended the Eucharistic Adoration at her local Catholic church.

Clare's warm heart, contagious spirit and deep love for family and friends were evident in everything she did. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother.  She cherished spending time with her four grandchildren, ever present at their life milestones and sacraments. She frequently attended their school and local sporting events. Her lifelong friendships were a true source of joy. Clare held a special bond with her siblings, nieces, and nephews and enjoyed many celebrations in their lives as well, whether it was a graduation, a wedding, or the welcoming of a new addition to the family.

An avid lover of crafts, card games, board games, and baking, Clare thoroughly enjoyed sharing her recipes when hosting friends and family. Many of us today, continue indulging in her favorite appetizers, dinners and desserts, and her annual Christmas cookie traditions. She loved traveling with Hank, and their endless days together sailing the seas. Whether on a cruise ship or off, she was often found planning our next family adventure, or a trip to visit family and friends around the country.

Clare leaves behind a legacy filled with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. All were fortunate, and blessed, to have shared time with her.
