Derril G. Allspach, 79, of Hatfield, Pennsylvania, passed away at home on Monday, February 23, 2026. He was the beloved husband of Ellen (Collins) Allspach, with whom he shared 53 devoted years of marriage.
Born on August 15, 1946, in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, Derril was the son of the late William and Norma (Chapman) Allspach.
Derril served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. While in the service, he became a skilled aircraft hydraulics mechanic, a trade that shaped his civilian career. He later worked as an industrial mechanic in the heavy equipment and publishing industries as well as joining the Pennsylvania Game Commission — a position he truly enjoyed. As a deputy game commissioner, he took great pride in protecting Pennsylvania's natural resources. He especially valued opportunities to assist injured and nuisance wildlife, ensuring they were humanely captured, treated, and, whenever possible, returned to the wild. He retired from the Commission in the late 1980s.
Derril had a deep love for the outdoors. As an avid hunter and fisherman, he never missed the opening day of Pennsylvania trout season, making it an annual tradition to fish alongside his sons and grandsons. Derril enjoyed sharing the secrets behind his uncanny trout fishing success, (AKA The Trout Whisperer) with youths from the local Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. He was also passionate about skeet shooting, a hobby he enjoyed with his wife, Ellen, who was in charge of releasing the clay targets — he rarely missed them! A meticulous reloader, Derril took great care in preparing his own ammunition. He especially enjoyed hunting waterfowl with friends, family, and local youth from the area farm, taking pride in passing along his knowledge, skills, and respect for the outdoors to the next generation.
In addition to his wife, Ellen, he is survived by his son, Toby Allspach of Coopersburg; his stepchildren, Ronald Enslin (Sharon) of Warminster, PA, Rob Enslin (Carla) of Conowingo, MD, and Laurie Jakavick of Warrington; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and his brother, Dale Allspach of Fort Myers, FL.
He was preceded in death by his brother, William Allspach, Jr.
The Memorial Service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 14, 2026 at the Souderton Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 1037 Spur Road, Souderton, PA 18964. A Zoom link is available here:
