Dorothy Theresa Malloy, 98, of Lansdale, PA passed away on October 9, 2026.
Dorothy was born on January 22, 1928 in Philadelphia, PA to the late Thomas and Katherine (Sundermeier) Burns. She attended Taylor Elementary, Simon Gratz High School and Peirce School of Business.
She went on to become a secretary, working at the Arthur H. Thomas Company and then at Abbott Laboratories where she met her love, James (Jim) Malloy. Dorothy and Jim married in November 1953, and were married for nearly 65 years.
After their marriage, Dorothy took on the ever-important role of mother and homemaker. She and Jim were blessed with three healthy children, and she lovingly devoted her attention to caring for her family and to assisting her parents as they aged. Baking was a favorite pastime. No excuse or special occasion was needed to whip up her famous scones or deluxe brownies. Dorothy and her family lived in North Philadelphia until 1974 before moving to the Lawndale area of the city, where she and Jim stayed until finally moving to Lansdale in 2000.
For those who knew Dorothy and Jim, it was hard to not also know that they were Irish. From bumper stickers to St. Patrick's Day celebrations, they were incredibly proud of their Irish heritage and wasted no opportunity to celebrate it. In retirement, they took up Irish Ceili dancing and enjoyed an active social life within that circle of friends. Dorothy and Jim traveled multiple times to Ireland, taking group tours with the dancers or, on other occasions, forging their own adventures amongst the country's idyllic green fields and sprawling hills.
Faith was foremost in Dorothy's life. She was a devout Catholic and dedicated much of her time to prayer, with a special devotion to the rosary. After moving to Lansdale, she and Jim became parishioners of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, where they attended mass daily. Over their time there, the parish community became a central part of Dorothy and Jim’s lives, both religiously and socially. In the course of attending the daily mass and other church events, Dorothy and Jim were fortunate enough to make many wonderful friends, and being able to celebrate their faith alongside such gracious and welcoming people was a source of great comfort to them in their later years.
Dorothy was a wonderful role model, a humble woman with quiet strength. Our family will miss her deeply, but she will live on in our hearts and in our memories.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Donna Branca (Frank); son, Thomas (Tom) Malloy (Cindy); six grandchildren, Kevin, Allison, Amanda, Thomas James (Rose), Christopher (Jenna), Bradley (Jessica); and seven great-grandchildren, James, Brooke, Braelyn, Brinley, Cooper, Parker, and Emma.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James T. Malloy; and her son, James B. Malloy.
Relatives and friends may call after 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 16, 2026 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 900 Sumneytown Pike, Lansdale, followed by the Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in St. John Neumann Cemetery, Chalfont. Arrangements are by the Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, Lansdale.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Corpus Christi Catholic Church are appreciated.
