Eugene Richard "Dick" Brodhag of Perkasie, PA entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior on Saturday, March 28th. Dick was born in Abington, PA on January 16,1935 to Alfred and Marion Brodhag and was the youngest of three sons.
He graduated from Abington High School class of 1952. A gifted athlete, he played both football and baseball. The son of an accomplished concert pianist, he followed his mother's artistic calling, majoring in music at West Chester State Teachers College. He went on to earn his Master's degree from Temple University. He served a short stint in the United States Army, but his music wouldn't wait. From 1958 to 1974, he taught instrumental music in the Abington School District, shaping the lives and artistic futures of his young students, many of whom still recall his impact.
Dick married Nancy née Brown in 1962. In 1972, Dick and Nancy gave their lives to Christ after a friend shared the good news of Jesus with them. Soon after, he left his distinguished music teaching career to go into full-time Christian work with CLC Ministries in Fort Washington, PA, where they served for more than thirty years. God blessed their forty years of married life. Together they enjoyed camping, canoeing, music, literature, sports, and hosting frequent family gatherings. They exemplified a godly marriage and showed the true value of family, leaving a lasting impact on their four children as well as extended family and friends. They are survived by their children, Richard "Bud" (Jennifer) Brodhag, Pam (Jeff) Caddick, Kristy (Steve) Stowers, and Jim (Jennifer) Brodhag, twelve grandchildren, Laura (Tyler), Tim (Sarah), Emma, Allyson, Katey, Ian (Alyssa), Elisabeth, Maclean, Cameron, Nathan (Gracie), Vivian, and Ethan; and two great-grandchildren, Ella and Daniel and a great-granddaughter due in July. Dick was preceded in death by his wife Nancy and brother Alfred L. Brodhag and is survived by his brother William R. Brodhag as well as many nieces and nephews.
After his beloved Nancy passed away in 2003, Dick married Eileen Watson née Paine in 2005 and together they enjoyed 20 years of married life sharing a love of Jesus Christ their Savior, family, music, travel, sports, and reading. Dick is also survived by Eileen's three sons and their spouses Drew (Kim) Watson, Steve (Wendy) Watson, and Dave (Beth) Watson, and eight grandchildren, Amanda (David), Alexa, Collin, Kyle, Logan, Oliver, Isla, and Finn. They all adored and loved Dick as "Dad" and "Pop Pop." Ever his caretaker and strength, Eileen lovingly cared for him throughout his latter years when he was afflicted with Parkinson's disease.
At the age of 91, with Eileen by his side, E. Richard Brodhag passed into the presence of his Savior. A godly man, he is missed dearly by those he raised, inspired, taught, and loved.
A celebration of his life will be held at Ridgeline Community Church, 3100 Meetinghouse Rd, Telford, PA on Wednesday, May 6th at 11:00 am with a visitation starting at 10:00 am.
