George W. Tracy, Sr.

George W. Tracy, Sr., 85, of Lansdale, died Saturday, June 6, 2015 at Abington Health – Lansdale Hospital. He was the husband of Lettie (Johnston) Tracy, his wife of 58 years.

Born November 4, 1929 in Baltimore, he was a son of the late Benjamin Jay and Mildred E. (Cox) Tracy.

Mr. Tracy was raised in Upper Darby and graduated from Upper Darby High School in 1948 and the University of Pennsylvania in 1952. He was a veteran of the US Navy, having served as a Lieutenant for two years during the Korean War.

Upon his honorable discharge, Mr. Tracy began his legal education at Temple Law School, graduating in 1957, and served as a Montgomery County Assistant District Attorney between 1968 and 1970. He later founded his law firm, Sommar, Tracy, and Sommar, in Lansdale, retiring in 2013.

George was a former member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, Lansdale, where he was a Lay Reader and was currently a member of Church of the Messiah, Lower Gwynedd. He was Past President of the Lansdale Jaycees, a former member of the North Penn Rotary Club, and was active in the Lansdale Redevelopment Authority. Earlier in life, he served on the Board of Managers for the Lansdale Cemetery.

Mr. Tracy was a member and trustee of the Shiloh Lodge #558, F & AM. He was also a member of the Damascus Commandery #95 and member and Past High Priest of the Royal Arch Chapter #301, Lansdale. He was a Past President and charter member of the Masonic North Penn High Twelve Club #473 and member of the York Scottish Rite. He was also Treasurer, Trustee, and International Treasurer to the Wolcott Foundation, Inc. and Worthy Patron of the Priscilla Chapter #64, OES.

He was an avid sailor and loved the Chesapeake Bay.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, G. Windsor Tracy, Jr. and his wife, Laura Earussi Tracy, of Lansdale, Patricia Tracy of Princeton, NJ, and Priscilla Tracy Skorny and her husband, John, of Lansdale; two granddaughters, Tracy Wert and Allison Wert, both of Lansdale; one great-grandson, Dominic Wert; and his beloved dog, Maggie.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Benjamin Jay Tracy, Jr., MD, and Daniel William Tracy.

Relatives and friends may call between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. Monday, June 15, 2015 at Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, 701 Derstine Ave., Lansdale, where a Masonic Service will be held at 7:45 p.m. A second visitation will be held between 9:30 and 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, June 16 at Church of the Messiah, 1001 Dekalb Pike, Lower Gwynedd, followed by the Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Valley Forge Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contribution be made in Mr. Tracy's memory to The Wolcott Foundation, Inc., c/o Malcolm White, 4621 McGuinness St., Bakersfield, CA 93308-1048 or the Shriners Hospital of Philadelphia for Children, 3551 North Broad St., Philadelphia, PA 19140 (memo line should read "Philadelphia Use Only").
