Jean {McCabe} Larkin, beloved wife and best friend to the late John {Jack} Larkin, died August 1, 2025 at Dock Woods retirement community where she had resided for the past 16 years.
Born in Phoenixville, to the late Kathryn[Jacobs} and John McCabe she moved to Norristown in 1940. Jean graduated from Norristown High School in 1950 and the Montgomery Hospital School of Nursing in 1953. Jean began her nursing career immediately upon graduation, working at Montgomery Hospital and later private duty at Montgomery Hospital, area nursing homes and at private residences. She was the epitome of a nurse. Dedicated, highly skilled, knowledgeable, compassionate, committed to excellent patient care and always professional. Jean maintained her nursing license until 2009. Jean continued her nursing skills by volunteering at Montgomery Hospital and then Einstein Montgomery until 2020 when COVID forced her to retire. Jean accrued over 12,000 volunteer hours at Montgomery and Einstein. She also was a tireless volunteer at Trinity United Church of Christ, Norristown and Ascension Church West Norriton where she spent countless hours assisting in their thrift shops. After moving to Dock Woods she volunteered delivering newspapers every morning and assisted with bingo and birthday celebrations.
When not volunteering, Jean was an avid tennis player and past member of Kinetix Sports Club. Jean enjoyed Ocean City, NJ, where she and Jack owned a home. Jean was a voracious stamp collector and could spend hours engrossed with stamps at her dining room table. She had numerous friends and several businesses collecting stamps for her. She attended many stamp shows and was a contributor to the Philatelic Foundation. Jean also enjoyed playing poker and taking trips to Atlantic City to play penny slot machines.
Most importantly, Jean was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Jean and Jack were married for 66 years until Jack's death in 2021. Jean is survived by two daughters, Cheryl Brumbaugh {Michael}, Deborah Larkin {Carla}, grandson's, Michael, Andrew {Marci} and John, sister, Joan Druker {Harve}, 2 nieces, 2 nephews and many devoted long-time neighbors and friends, especially Catherine "Cook" Naughton, a fellow nurse, who remained her closest friend for over 75 years.
In addition to her parents and her husband Jack, Jean was predeceased by her dear sister, Mariam {Mim} Woodward.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Jean and Jack on August 18, 2025 at the Dock Woods Chapel, 275 Dock Dr Lansdale, PA 19446. 10:30 visitation, 11:00 service. Pastor Tamira Good officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations would be welcomed to the Living Branches-Dock Woods Nursing Scholarship Fund in memory of Jean Larkin, 275 Dock Dr. Lansdale, PA 19446. Jean's lasting wish was to assist others to join her profession.
