John S. Batson, 74, of Souderton, died Saturday, February 23, 2013 at Doylestown Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Gail (Spare) Batson, his wife of nearly 52 years.
Born December 30, 1938 in Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Wilbur and Eleanor (Hoppe) Batson.
Mr. Batson served as a Police Officer with the Philadelphia Police Department for 26 years, retiring in 1986. He was also a proud veteran of the US Army. His hobbies included playing cards and shopping at yard sales.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Scott D. Batson and his wife, Erika, of Melbourne, FL; daughters, Jennifer Gnau and her husband, Daniel, of Perkasie, and Amy Hill and her husband, Christopher, of Lansdale; six grandchildren, Sarah Batson, Ethan Gnau, Evan Gnau, Madelyn Hill, Jack Hill and Noah Hill; and his brother, Edward Batson and his wife, Kathleen, of Clearwater, FL.
He was preceded in death by a son, Jack Batson; and brother, Wilbur Batson.
Relatives and friends may call after 5 p.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013 at Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, 701 Derstine Ave., Lansdale, followed by the Funeral Service at 6 p.m. Interment will be private.
For those desiring, contributions may be made in John's memory to a college fund to be established for his grandchildren, c/o Gail Batson.
