John "Jack" M. Nickell, 79, of Lansdale, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Born on April 23, 1945, in Philadelphia, Jack lived a life marked by intelligence, generosity, and an extraordinary sense of optimism. For over 50 years, he called Lansdale home.

Jack graduated from Roxborough High School, where his brilliance and sense of purpose were already shining through. He served as editor-in-chief of the school newspaper and received commencement awards for Science and Mathematics from the Square Club of Roxborough. He also loved singing in the school choir, a joy that stayed with him throughout his life. It was in the Roxborough choir that he met Barbara, who would become his beloved wife of 55 years.

Jack earned a degree in Industrial Engineering from Drexel University, followed by a master's degree from the University of Pennsylvania, both on full scholarship. While attending Penn, he also served as an assistant professor, teaching statistics at the Wharton School of Business. He later spent over 30 years as a Business Manager in Research & Development at Merck, where he brought clarity, order, and thoughtful leadership to every challenge.

A devoted father and grandfather, Jack was a steady and loving presence in the lives of his children and grandchildren. He was their trusted advisor, safe harbor, and biggest supporter. His children adored him for his wisdom, patience, and unwavering love.

Jack loved life, and he lived it with an infectious positivity that lifted everyone around him. Even in his final days, he continued to coordinate household projects and stay mentally engaged. He truly was the most positive person many of us have ever known. His strength of spirit, steady perspective, and generosity were a gift to all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He was also deeply spiritual, with a profound connection to nature. He often found peace sitting on the backyard deck beneath a wide blue sky, taking in the beauty around him with quiet reverence. He loved skiing, family vacations, and relaxing at his home at the Hideout in the Poconos, or on getaways to Bonita Springs, Florida. A lifelong Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies fan, Jack cheered with loyalty and heart. Christmas was his favorite holiday, a time he filled with tradition and the joy of togetherness.

Jack is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara Nickell; his brother, Bruce Nickell; and his brother-in-law, Joseph Ragno. He is survived by his children Susan Nickell, Lisa Morrissey and her husband Matthew, and Jeffrey Nickell and his wife Megan. He was a proud grandfather to Emily, and step-grandfather to Finnegan, Sawyer, and Shepherd. Jack also leaves behind his sister, Nancy Ragno; sister-in-law Carol Nickell; brother-in-law Larry Holmes; and many cherished nieces and nephews.

Jack's life was a beautiful blend of gentle brilliance, resilience, and joy. His legacy is one of love, strength, and unwavering hope, a legacy that will continue to shine through the lives he touched.
