Joe Radvansky taught math for over thirty years. But ask anyone who sat in his classroom, played on his teams, or simply knew the man — they'll tell you he was really teaching something much bigger than that.
Joseph J. Radvansky, Jr., 77, of Lansdale, Pennsylvania, passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2026. He was born on January 21, 1949, in Philadelphia, to the late Joseph J. and Stella (Maikner) Radvansky, Sr.
Joe spent more than three decades at La Salle College High School, where he taught mathematics and, along the way, made a real difference in the lives of countless young men. He also coached the Freshman football team and served as assistant coach of the tennis team. For his years of loyal service to the La Salle community, he was recently honored with the Christian Brother Service Award, which just about anyone who knew Joe would say it could not have been awarded to a more deserving person.
He showed up fully — for his students, his family, his faith, and the next tennis match.
In 1996, Joe received a heart transplant, a gift made possible by the generosity of the family of organ donor Albert Fennell. Their selflessness gave Joe thirty more years of seeing his children grow, marry and leave a lasting impression on the lives of his grandchildren. Joe was a member of the Philadelphia branch of Gift of Life and hosted an annual tennis party whose proceeds were donated to the charity to promote organ donation.
Faith was central to who Joe was. He was a devoted parishioner of Corpus Christi Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He didn't just go through the motions. Specifically, while in the hospital, Joe wrote heartfelt prayers to encourage his children's happiness and faith, offering them spiritual guidance and love even during his own health struggles. He distributed his prayer cards to almost anyone he met including his caretakers during his recent hospital stay.
When he wasn't in a classroom or a church pew, Joe was not just sitting still. He was a die-hard Philadelphia sports fan, a regular of the Fire House Tennis Club, and the kind of grandfather who could provide turn-by-turn directions to all of his grandchildren's sporting events while sharing tips focused on hustling and teamwork. Summer meant Ocean City, NJ with the family. And wherever Joe went, he usually brought his camera to capture family events and fantastic sunsets.
He is survived by his loving wife Diane (Dougherty) Radvansky of Lansdale; daughter Catherine Martin (Terence) of Lafayette Hill; son Christopher Radvansky (Katherine) of Holland; sister Kathleen McDonnell (Ted); brother Michael Radvansky (Linda); and five grandchildren, TJ Martin, Cecelia Martin, Camille Martin, Claire Radvansky, and Annie Radvansky.
