Joyce Huffman, 87, of Lansdale, died Wednesday, October 22, 2025. She was the beloved wife of the late Dexter Huffman, who died October 13, 1998.
Born June 20, 1938 at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA, she was a daughter of the late Paul and Eileen (Riley) Havens. Her younger years were spent on a small dairy farm in Milan, PA and at age 17, her family moved to Athens, PA.
Joyce graduated from Robert Packer Hospital School of Nursing in Sayre, PA as a Registered Nurse, and then moved to the Philadelphia area after graduation. Her career as an RN began in Obstetrics at Abington Memorial Hospital, continuing in nursing homes and retiring as Evening RN Supervisor at Dock Woods Community.
She was a longtime parishioner of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Lansdale.
Joyce was an avid gardener and animal lover having grown up on the dairy farm with cows, chickens, horses and rabbits. She maintained meticulous gardens in all her homes until she was physically unable, and her grandsons, Michael and Dexter took over her garden care. She raised many Springer Spaniel dogs along with two litters of puppies. She read a book a week, historical fiction being her favorite. Joyce was an enthusiastic sports fan cheering on the Eagles, Sixers and Phillies literally until her passing.
Most importantly, she devoted her life to the care of others, both personally and in her career as a Nurse. She gave unconditional love, support, compassion, empathy, open- mindedness and time to everyone she met. Her giving heart was loved by all.
Survivors include her daughter, Julie Stratton of Lansdale; son, Dean Huffman (Tracee- Jo Kalan) of Doylestown; her step-daughter, Debbie Axelrod of Wayne, PA; two grandchildren, Michael Stratton and Dexter Stratton; four step-granddaughters, Whitney, Rachel, Dannah, and Chelsey; and a number of step-great-grandchildren; brother, Larry Havens (Sharon Havens) of Rochester, NY; former son-in-law Chris Stratton of Philadelphia, PA; five cousins, George Havens, John Welch, Betty Jean Boyanowski, Bob Tucker, Susan Malone and her beloved cat, Bella.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her step-son, Mark Hackenberg.
