Lansdale

Judith Anne Rowland, 71, of Lansdale, died Monday, January 21, 2019 at St. Luke's Hospice House, Bethlehem.  She was the loving wife of Walter "Ken" Rowland.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 26 th at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 900 Sumneytown Pike, Lansdale, PA.  Friends and family may call from 9:30-11:00 AM prior to Mass at the church.  Interment will be a private ceremony at Washington Crossing National Cemetery on Monday, January 28.

Born in Jersey City, NJ, Judy was the daughter of Joseph and Leona (Thornton) McVeigh. She graduated from St. Michael's High School in Union City, NJ.  While a manager in JCPenney's Manhattan office, she met her husband in a mail exchange with soldiers serving in Vietnam. When he returned from the United State Marine Corps, Ken married Judy, and they have remained wed for 48 years.

The Rowland Family received the designation of Military Family of the Year for the State of New Jersey in 1983.

Over the decades, Judy served as an early-education teacher, driven by her love of young children and her excitement at their desire to learn and grow.  She taught preschool in Bayonne, New Jersey and Ocean Springs, Mississippi.

She was a member of the Girl Scouts for 20 years and then took on a Cub Scout Pack as a Den Mother.  She was a seamstress and a crafter, spending hours of time bringing joy to children.

Judy was also happily employed in the office of Salad Bartenders, a local catering company in Harleysville, PA, for 15 years.

For the past ten years, Judy has staffed the front desk at Manna on Main in Lansdale where she assisted those who were food insecure or in need of support.  She loved her volunteer position and was eager to give a smile and offer some help.

Mostly, though, Judy Rowland was a woman who loved people, especially children, and who placed her family above all things.  She was generous and kind, funny and grumpy, loving and patient.  She always had time for those who needed to be heard.  Her heart was large and her mind was open.

Surviving with her husband are her children, Rebecca Rowland of Lansdale, and Joseph Rowland of Orlando, FL; grandchildren, Alyssa, Christie, and Taylor; sisters, Maureen McVeigh-Berzok (James) of East Brunswick, NJ, and Sharon McVeigh-Simon of Buffalo, NY; nephews, Sam, Tom, Yuri, and Damien; and her longtime friends, Michelle Cianchetta and family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Manna on Main St. at www.mannaonmain.org .  Judy treasured her time at Manna where she engaged with people in a happy, positive way.
