Karen Louise Dougherty, 83, of Harleysville, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2026.
Born on November 18, 1942, in Spokane, Washington, Karen was the daughter of the late John and Zelma (Lodge) Reibe. As a young child, her family moved to the Lansdale area, where she spent most of her life building lasting friendships, raising her family, and serving her community.
Karen devoted her career to caring for others as a school nurse with the North Penn School District, where she faithfully served students and families for 30 years. Her compassion, steady presence, and genuine concern for others left a lasting impact on countless lives.
Outside of her profession, Karen had a deep love for history that became one of the defining passions of her life. She was widely respected for her extensive knowledge of 18th-century cooking and was an active participant in Revolutionary War reenactments. Karen generously shared her knowledge through volunteer service at the Morgan Log House, the Peter Wentz Farmstead, and numerous other historic sites throughout Montgomery and Bucks Counties, helping preserve and bring history to life for future generations.
Karen also found great joy in the companionship of her beloved dogs, Jake and Lexi, who were treasured members of her family.
She is survived by her daughter, Susan Dougherty (Mike Limatola); her son, John Dougherty (Jodee); and her four cherished grandchildren, Anna Mae Dougherty, Sean Dougherty, Jay Dougherty, and Drew Dougherty.
In addition to her parents, Karen was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edward Patrick Dougherty, in 2004.
Karen will be remembered for her caring heart, her love of learning, her dedication to preserving history, and the devotion she showed to her family, friends, and community. Her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched through her profession, her volunteer service, and the love she shared with those closest to her.
