Kathleen Marie Freer, Sr., 87, of Hatfield, passed away unexpectedly at home on June 29, 2026.
Born on April 6, 1939, in Philadelphia, PA, Kathleen was the cherished daughter of the late Howard and Katherine (Coughlin) Small. She attended West Philadelphia Catholic Girl’s High School. Kathleen met and later married her high school sweetheart, Russ. After they were married in 1958, they started their family. They relocated to Hatboro, PA and then settled in Hatfield, PA where they enjoyed their remaining years together.
Kathleen enjoyed her time as a stay-at-home mom for many years. Once her children grew older, she took a part-time position at American Olean Tile in Lansdale, PA. She later went on to devote over three decades of her life to serving as a bus driver for the North Penn School District which she absolutely loved. During this time, she gained a reputation for her outstanding safety record and her fun-loving nature.
Following her retirement, Kathleen treasured the moments spent with her family, whom she often described as her whole world. She had a deep love of history and was an avid reader who kept up with current events, politics, and finance. Kathleen loved all kinds of music and found joy in it throughout her life. She also enjoyed golfing, gardening, shopping and cooking. The beach held a special place in her heart, especially her visits to Avalon.
She is survived by her loving children: Russell D. Freer, Jr. (Beth), Richard Freer (Lisa), Chris Freer, and Kathleen Reece (Paul); her companion, David Peton, and his daughter, Crystal Peton; her thirteen grandchildren, Russell III (Candice), Emily, Ryan, David (Melissa), Jesse (Taylor), Danielle, Isabella, Christopher Jr., Benjamin, Patrick, David James, John Paul, and Kayton; and six great-grandchildren, Joseph, Giuliana, Grace, Jeremy, Gabriel, and Lincoln; along with extended family members whom she loved dearly and who will cherish her memory.
In addition to her parents, Kathleen was preceded in death by her husband, Russell D. Freer, Sr. of 32 years; her brother, James Small; and her beloved grandchildren, Heather and Sean.
Family and friends are warmly welcomed to express their condolences starting at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, July 10, 2026, at Mary, Mother of the Redeemer Catholic Church, located at 1325 Upper State Road, North Wales. A Funeral Mass will follow at 10:30 a.m., with interment at St. John Neumann Cemetery.
Kathleen is now reunited with her beloved Russ, the love of her life. Together again, they are at peace after many years apart. Her family will miss her beyond words, but they take comfort in her legacy of unconditional love, unwavering strength, and fierce devotion of family. Kathleen’s greatest joy was her family, and her final wish was that her children always remain close, to care for one another, and keep family first.
Arrangements are by Huff and Lakjer Funeral Home, Lansdale, PA.
