Louis Joseph Ruch, Jr.

February 27, 1943 — February 12, 2025

Louis J. Ruch ("Derry"), 81, of Harleysville, husband of Patricia (Quinn) Ruch, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, February 12, 2025 at his home.

Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Louis Joseph Ruch Sr. and Helen Pauline (Langan) Ruch. Louis graduated from Roman Catholic High School in 1961, LaSalle College in 1965, and Temple Law School in 1970.

More than anything, Louis loved spending time with his wife Patricia, and his family.  He was passionate about Philadelphia sports teams and got to see his beloved Philadelphia Eagles win their second Super Bowl. He was an avid reader and loved learning about history and government.  Louis enjoyed visiting Ocean City, New Jersey. He could be found "pounding the boards", walking along the beach, or watching the sunset.  In his free time, he enjoyed playing cards, especially pinochle, and was an avid puzzle solver.

Louis was a dedicated public servant.  He worked as a Treasury Agent for the IRS, was an Attorney for the DEA, and served as an Assistant US Attorney and Chief of the Criminal Division for the Department of Justice.  He received multiple awards and recognition for his dedication to peace and justice.  He continued that mission while spending the end of his career in private practice. Louis will always be remembered for his smile and laughter, positivity, kind heart, incredible patience, and amazing sense of humor.

Surviving with his wife is son Christopher Ruch, husband of Beth; daughters Jackie Meehan, wife of John, and Carolyn Ellis, wife of Mike; daughter-in-law Lisa Ruch; sisters Helene Gey, wife of Rod and Carol Festa, wife of Bob; brother Thomas Ruch, husband of Frannie; grandchildren Jennifer Duffy, wife of Joe, Louis C Ruch, husband of Shannon, Madelyn Meehan, Sagan Ellis, and Zachary Meehan; and great grandson Owen. He was predeceased by his son, Louis C. Ruch.

Services and interment are private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Louis's name to  Grand View Health Foundation, 700 Lawn Avenue, Sellersville, PA 18960 (in the notes put  "Hospice Care" ) or online at https://www.gvh.org/online-donations
