Lyle D. Kauffman

Lyle D. Kauffman, 84, of Lansdale, died June 18, 2026. He was the beloved husband of Rhoda D. (Alderfer) Kauffman.

Born March 31, 1942, in Goshen, IN, he was the son of the late Fred S. and Ruth A. (Miller) Kauffman.

Lyle spent most of his life in Virginia, grew up farming and came to Pennsylvania in 1961 to fulfill his alternate service at Norristown State Hospital. In 1964 he met his future wife Rhoda on a blind date, and they were married in October 1965. Lyle began his working life as a truck driver for Keller’s Creamery before moving on to V&J Derstine Trucking. He moved into the garage and was employed as a diesel mechanic for the rest of his working life, initially for V&J Derstine which became Moyer Packing Company in 1976. He worked at Hatfield Quality Meats from 1993 until he retired in 2017 at age 75.

In addition to his working career, he was Chief Engineer with the Harleysville Volunteer Fire Company for 30 years.

Lyle had a lifelong love of music. He sang and played bass guitar with a gospel group The Basics, played bass guitar with the church worship team, manned the sound system for church services, and enjoyed listening to music daily.

Lyle had many Interests, including hunting and fishing, trips to the mountains with family and friends, motorcycling, photography, watching sports, camping with his young family, traveling with his wife, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Lyle had a servant’s heart for God and his faith was evident in all areas of his life. He served as a deacon for many years at Branch Church, which later became part of LCBC Church in Harleysville, where he was a member until his passing. He was a beloved member of his family and community, and his gentle nature will be missed by all.

Along with his wife, additional survivors include three children, Ronald S. Kauffman, Lansdale, Brian D. Kauffman (Melissa), Souderton and their children Braeden, Brynnlee and Brenna, and Cynthia D. Smith (Trevor), East Greenville and their children, Zachary, Carley and Avery; Siblings, Eunice Kraybill, Chapel Hill, NC, Glenn Kauffman, Lowell Kauffman and Leanna Beiler all of Harrisonburg, VA.

Lyle is predeceased by siblings, Elroy and Dale Kauffman.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 29 beginning at 9:30 AM at LCBC Church in Harleysville, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 11:00 AM.
