Marian Whitney Archibald, 72, of Lansdale, PA and Warren, NH, died Friday, January 9, 2015 in Lansdale. She was the wife of the late Dr. Robert Bruce Archibald, her husband of 34 years, who died July 26, 1997.
Born May 19, 1942 in Springfield, MA, she was a daughter of the late Robert Byron and Josephine M. (Winter) Whitney.
Marian graduated from Radcliffe College with Honors in Music. She was a piano student of Fiora Contino and studied organ with John King.
She was a true force of nature, sharing love and music with all around her. For over 30 years, she served as the organist of St. Luke's UCC, North Wales. Marian was also the rehearsal accompanist of the Franconia-Lancaster Choral Singers and the Choristers. She played organ, piano and harpsichord for numerous performances in the Philadelphia area and New England, including at Meadowood, Christopher Dock High School, Zion Mennonite Church, and Church Island on Squam Lake, NH. She deeply loved people, music and travel and touched the lives of so many.
Survivors include her children, Katherine E. Archibald of San Diego, CA, and David W. Archibald and his wife, Sara, of Pine Grove Mills, PA; her granddaughter, Lilienna Archibald; brother, John Whitney and his wife, Ann, of Zephyr Cove, NV; sister-in-law Helen Whitney; brother-in-law Cooper Langford III; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Whitney Jr.; sister, Martha Langford; and two step-mothers, Mabel Winter Whitney and Constance Schneider Whitney.
Relatives and friends may call after 1:00 p.m. January 24, 2015 at St. Luke's UCC, 125 N. Main St., North Wales, PA, followed by the Memorial Service at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be private. Arrangements are by the Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, Lansdale.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Marian's memory to the New Hampshire Music Festival, the Mennonite Historians of Eastern Pennsylvania, the Bruce Archibald Memorial Fund for Music Studies at Temple University, or the donor's favorite charity.
