Mary Edna Zimmerman Ott passed away on April 10, 2025, at Meadowood Community in Worcester, PA.
Born July 28, 1934, on the family farm she was the daughter of the late Ed and Blanche (Tex) Perkins Zimmerman. Mary was married on October 24, 1953, to Richard Lee Ott who preceded her in death in January 2020. She eloped on a train to Georgia where they were married before Richard's deployment to Japan.
She was a 1952 graduate of Westtown School, where she subsequently served on the Board. She attended Lankenau Hospital School of Nursing where she received her RN degree in 1955. Mary then went to Chitose, Japan for 8 months to be with Richard as he served in the Army Security Agency, the precursor to the NSA. She was an RN at Chestnut Hill Hospital where she became Head Nurse in the CCU at the beginning of cardiac monitoring.
Mary was a lifelong member of Gwynedd Friends Meeting. She earned her private pilots license in 1961 and enjoyed flying her family to various airports for lunch on weekends or flying parts into the farm for her dad. She was a Ham Radio Operator with the call sign K3FLG, or as she said on the radio, "K3 Fun Loving Girl."
Raised on Silver Lake Farm in Center Square, she helped with chores, field work and anything she was asked to do. She was a fearless tractor driver, silo climber, horse rider, Guernsey cattle herder and all-round country girl. Mary and Richard traveled extensively, taking the family to Japan in 1970 and on several post-retirement trips to Europe and Russia, with Mary taking a trip to China on her own. For several years they shared a vacation home in Galveston, TX where they spent hours fishing the Galveston Bay with Texas relatives and guests.
Surviving is one brother, Paul Zimmerman of Wolfeboro, NH, two sons, Mark (Olivia) Ott of Howard, Eric Ott of Schwenksville, and daughter Kimberly (Tim) Keck of Soldotna, Alaska, four grandchildren, Ellis Ott, Matthew Keck, Daniel Keck and Ryan Ott, and three great-grandchildren, Krystaleigh Ott and Brennan and Edmund Keck. Mary was preceded in death by her brother Mark.
