Jun 29, 1939 — Oct 10, 2026

Lansdale, PA

Patricia Smith, also known as “Pat” or “Trish,” passed away peacefully Saturday, October 10, 2026 at home after living with MDS, which in the end became Leukemia. She was the beloved wife of Raymond Smith, her husband of 68 years.

Born June 29, 1939 in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Margaret (Leon) and Willard Cole.

Her family moved to Schwenksville where she attended a one-room schoolhouse, taking her dog with her to school for the day.

They then moved to Hatfield and Pat graduated from North Penn High School in 1957, where, according to her yearbook, she was a “diet conscious gourmand, bowled over by Sonny and a sharp dresser.”

She would marry “Sonny” the next year and then have two children, Gerald (Jerry) and Connie. Raising her children along with Ray and seeing them become responsible adults was one of her proudest family moments.

Pat entered the workforce part time when her children were young at Data-Matic, working as a typist. Eventually she went full-time and worked her way up to administrative assistant and retired after a 30-year career, keeping the office running smoothly. She was unflappable under pressure, except for the time there was a snake under her desk.

Once the children were grown, Pat and Ray decided to take up skiing, traveling to Colorado to ski the mountains of Breckenridge. They bought motorcycles and traveled to various states with friends. They were members of the Blue Comet Motorcycle club.

Pat and Ray retired and spent six months of the year in Largo, FL. She joined the women’s nine-hole league, scoring not one, but TWO Hole-In-One’s! They made many new friends and had old friends from Lansdale who wintered down there as well. Many card games and social gatherings were enjoyed.

Pat was always torn about being away from her immediate family for such a long period of time. Eventually they sold the Largo place and spent their time in Lansdale being near their family and especially their great-grandchildren.

Pat always found time to volunteer at the hospital in Lansdale for 21 years and at Holy Trinity church with the Sandwich Ministry. She had a regular date with her high school friends club. She joined a group who sang at nursing homes. She also joined a knitting group.

Pat loved good food, playing cards (you definitely wanted her on your team), music, movies, reading and keeping in touch with friends.

The things that made Pat happiest were sunrises, sunsets, a smile from a stranger, brisk walks (seriously!) morning coffee and great-grandchildren.

Pat was able to spend one last family vacation at the Jersey Shore this September, an annual tradition. She sat on the deck, soaking up the sun, watching the family play at the beach and listening to the waves and birds.

Pat was fun-loving and kind, strong and determined and faced her medical hardships with much courage.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Connie Smith (Kimman Harmon) of Boulder, CO, and Gerald Smith (Suzanne) of Lansdale; her granddaughter, Bethanne Michael (Patrick) of Lansdale; and two great-grandchildren, Rileigh and Avery.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, James Cole.

Relatives and friends may call after 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 17, 2026 at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, 919 Tennis Avenue, Maple Glen, PA 19002, followed by the Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be private in Whitemarsh Memorial Park, Ambler. Arrangements are by the Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, Lansdale.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in her memory to the MDS Foundation, online at www.MDSFoundation.org.
