Paul A. Battavio

Paul A. Battavio, 97 of Lansdale, PA passed away peacefully on September 11, 2026.

Born on July 3rd, 1929, to Samuel and Martha Battavio, he had 8 siblings who were also born and raised on Fifth Street in Lansdale.

He attended and graduated from Lansdale High School in 1947 with a specialty in Vocational Drafting and would regularly take the train to Philadelphia School of art to hone his oil painting skills.

He excelled in sports in school and was acknowledged by Big Stone Gap Baseball Corporation until he was drafted by the United States Army for the Korean Was Conflict in the 40th Infantry. He was promoted to Corporal and served in Korea and Japan earning 3 medals and 2 badges for his services. Honorably discharged in 1952, he returned home where he continued his career in baseball.

In 1953, he signed with the New York Yankees eventually also playing with the St Louis Cardinals and Philadelphia Phillies.

In 1954 he was named MVP in Trois-Riviers (Canadian American League) and later reached Triple A level with Syracuse Phillies before retiring in 1955. From 1956 to 1959 he coached baseball alongside Larry Glick at Lansdale Catholic High School. Dad was later inducted into the North Penn Alumni Athletic Association Hall of Fame in 2005

His work over many years as a delivery driver for Lehigh Valley Dairy and UPS was rewarding where he made many friends

After retirement he continued part time at Ziegler’s and Diddens Greenhouse.

Tending to his many gardens and filling his home with amazing oil paintings were always his joy

Surviving are his daughters Denise DiNunzio (Rick), Paula Battavio (Kelly Adams) and L.Renee Tompkins (Jeff)

Known as “Poppy” to Brent, Heather and Stephanie and 3 great grandchildren Lily, Esme and Freyja Renee

Preceding him in death was his beloved wife Regina (Markley) and his precious son Samuel David, along with seven siblings.

The family will receive friends starting 9:30 am Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, 701 Derstine Ave., Lansdale, PA 19446, with Celebration of Life Services at 11 am. Burial will follow at St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Lansdale.
