Upper Gwynedd

Paul J. Malatesta, beloved husband of Carla, and father to Alexandra McMahan, Christopher Malatesta and Paul Malatesta, passed away peacefully on April 27th.  Paul was born in Berwick, PA, to parents Mary and Joseph Malatesta.  He received a full athletic scholarship to play football for Temple University and graduated in 1966 with a BS in Education.  Paul was later drafted to play professional football with Philadelphia's first professional football team then went on to coach at both Bucknell and Temple University.

Paul lived in Lansdale for several years raising his boys, Christopher and Paul. Throughout their childhood he was an avid volunteer in their little league baseball and midget football leagues and remained their devoted fan throughout their high school and collegiate athletic careers.  He later moved to Upper Gwynedd where he raised Alexandra, for whom he rarely missed a field hockey game, even when she was later standing on the sideline as the Coach, like her father.  Paul was a lifelong coach and mentor to his children and grandchildren as well as many of their friends and teammates.

He spent his professional career at the Xerox Corporation rising through Sales and Management, retiring after 30 years with friendships that would last a lifetime.

He loved golf, his buddies, caring for his property himself, fixing or making anything his family needed around the house, but most of all, spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren.  He was an avid Eagles fan and enjoyed watching the game on Sundays with his best friend, Joseph Magazine.

In addition to his wife, Carla, Paul is survived by his children, Alexandra and Connor McMahan of Villanova, PA (granddaughter Maeve); Christopher and Jennifer Malatesta of Bloomsburg, PA (grandchildren Jack, Nicholas, Michael and Victoria); and Paul and Peggy Malatesta of Phoenix, Arizona (grandson Matthew); and his siblings Roseann, Addy, and Joseph.  He leaves behind many lifelong friends who will miss him dearly. His larger-than-life personality, home-made Italian dinners, wise words and lessons, and unwavering devotion to his family, will be missed but never forgotten.

Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, Lansdale, is handling arrangements.
