Ramesh Gupta

On Friday, September 23, 2022, our beloved Dr. Ramesh Chandra Gupta, M.D passed away in Dresher, PA. He was born in Kanpur, India in 1939 to Jageshwar Prasad Gupta and Shanti Gupta, raised by Brijrani Devi Gupta. Dr. Gupta completed medical school and obtained Board Certification in Orthopedic Surgery from Lucknow University, India. He practiced as an Orthopedic Surgeon in Allahabad, India and was awarded fellowship from the Indian Council of Medical Research and the Fellowship of International College of Surgeons USA. After marrying Asha Gupta and emigrating to the US, he served as a Board-Certified Physical Medicine Rehab Physician and Orthopedic Specialist for the VA Health System in New York and Philadelphia for 27 years and retired in 2014. During his tenure, he served as an Assistant Clinical Professor at NYU, Temple and University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Gupta was passionate about promoting Indian heritage and culture and was a true leader in his Indian community. He volunteered his time and charitably supported many organizations including serving in positions for the India Association of South Jersey, Trustee of Hindi Association, member of the Governing Board of Asian Indian Professionals, Trustee of Council of Indian Organizations, NADA, and founding member of Indian Cultural Center of South Jersey.  He was also the founder of the Indian Civic Society and Co-found of the U.P. Association of Greater Philadelphia.  He also dedicated his time to arranging Hindu programs in the Greater Philadelphia region and compiled a booklet "Hindu Prayers" which brings Hindu prayers to English speaking people and distributed thousands of copies to temples around the world.

Most importantly, Dr. Gupta was a loving husband, father, grandfather, family member and friend. Dr. Gupta is survived by his wife Asha, eldest daughter Kavita, her husband Salil, and children Nayan, Ketan, and Nidhi and his youngest daughter Roopali, her husband Aaron and daughters, Maya and Leena. Services will be held on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at 3 pm at the Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home in Landsale, PA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Indian Cultural Center of South Jersey.
