Richard Boorse

Richard Boorse, 97, of Dock Woods, Lansdale, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, October 23, 2025 at Lehigh Valley Hospital.  He was the beloved husband of the late Martine (Hagenbuch) Boorse, who died June 13, 2007.

Born July 24, 1928 in Lansdale, he was a son of the late Charles and Minnie (Thiemich) Boorse.

A child of the Depression, Dick was the youngest of eight children, raised by his father and sisters after the death of his mother when he was an infant.  He worked throughout high school and completed the business course - a proud graduate of the Lansdale High School class of 1946.  Following high school, he enlisted in the Army.  After serving two years in Korea, he used his G.I. Bill benefit to attend Peirce Junior College in Philadelphia and obtained a certification in accounting in 1950. While attending Pierce, he met his future wife and the love of his life, Martine, at a dance in Allentown. Following a 1952 wedding, they lived in Sellersville, PA and welcomed twin girls in 1954 and a son in 1959.

As a CPA, he worked for many years at Lawrence E. Brown in Philadelphia. After a time with Price Waterhouse, Dick's career led him to Janney Montgomery Scott in Philadelphia where he became partner as well as Senior Vice President and Treasurer. While engaging in a demanding career and raising a family, Dick was also active in the United Church of Christ where the family attended first at Trinity Great Swamp in Spinnerstown and then at St. John's in Lansdale where he served as President of the church council.

Dick loved travel, and, with Martine, took frequent trips overseas with Janney and to visit the exchange students that they had hosted. Dick was an avid follower of political and world events. He was always concerned about those less fortunate, both at home and abroad, and lived modestly to support his strong commitment to philanthropy.

Survivors include his children, Patricia L. Kracht of Sellersville, Susan G. Boorse of Takoma Park, MD, and Dr. Richard C. Boorse (Nina Schiavone) of Center Valley, PA; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends may call after 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 29, 2025 at Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, 701 Derstine Ave., followed by the Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m.  Burial will be in Trinity Great Swamp UCC Cemetery, Spinnerstown.
