Richard David Claypool

Richard David Claypool, 78, of Lansdale passed away peacefully Friday, December 26, 2014 at Elm Terrace Gardens. He was the husband of Shirley S. Claypool for 48 years.

Born March 11, 1936 in Camden, NJ, Richard was the son of the late Albert Parker and Dorothy Radley (Hormann) Claypool.

He was raised in Collingswood, NJ where he attended James A. Garfield School. At the age of 12, his family moved to Atlanta, GA, where he attended Brookhaven Grammar School, then Chamblee High School, graduating class of 1954.

Richard worked for the Atlantic Coastline Railroad before serving in the Army's United States Counter Intelligence Corps in Berlin, Germany. He then graduated from the University of Chicago in 1964 with a BA in Music; a Masters in 1969 and a PhD in 1975 from Northwestern University, followed by an MS in 1983 from Drexel University in Library and Information Science.

His career took him to the Moravian Music Foundation in Bethlehem, as a musicologist, then to the New York Public Library where he served as a librarian, cataloging music and sound recordings for the circulating collection at Lincoln Center.

Richard and Shirley met through a mutual friend and were married on December 17, 1966. As a couple they enjoyed interesting train trips across the country. They have been residents of Elm Terrace Gardens since early 2014.

Services and Interment are private.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Richard's memory to Elm Terrace Gardens, 660 N. Broad St., Lansdale, PA 19446.
