Rita Horton

November 9, 1932 — January 5, 2025

Rita M. Horton, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed peacefully surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her son, Richard Horton. Rita is survived by her daughter Audra, her grandchildren Sarah, Heather, and Joshua, as well as her beloved pets Amber, Marley, Oscar, and Moon.

Rita led a remarkable and fulfilling life. She made history as the first female undercover detective in Philadelphia, a trailblazer who paved the way for women in law enforcement, and honored her position at the school of the deaf. A long-time member of the Norristown Art League and Garden Club, she nurtured her creativity and love of nature. She also had a love for children and children's books, being invited to illustrate in New York City, and even wrote her own children's book.

In her earlier years, Rita traveled the world as a companion to her sister, Margret Koczur and spouse Joseph Koczur. Some of her most cherished memories were made during their travels through Germany, Italy, Switzerland, and many more destinations. Rita also ran a successful catering business with her cousin Carmella Puracchio, where she shared her love for food and hospitality.

In her later years, Rita dedicated her time to volunteering locally, teaching her grandchildren the art of Italian cooking, and sharing her strong Catholic faith with others. Her legacy of love, kindness, and devotion will live on through her family and all who knew her.

Rita will be deeply missed, but her impact on this world is undeniable. Her service will be held at the church she attended, February 1, at 11:00 AM at St. Philip's in Pennsburg, PA. Her memory will remain etched in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her.
