Shirlee Rose (Wilson) Nicolino, a life-long resident of Lansdale, PA, died on November 14, 2024 at the age of 93 while surrounded by loving friends at Dock Woods.
She is survived by her older sister Lois Bloom. She is predeceased by her son Ricky Nicolino, husband Frank Nicolino, her sister Jeanne Stauffer, her mother Susanna Wilson, and her father George Wilson. She is also predeceased by a number of in-laws, including: Joe and Grace Nicolino, Nick Nicolino, Rosie and Bud Samson, Bill Stauffer, Jim Rowan, and Sam Bloom.
She has numerous nieces and nephews most of whom survive her. They include: William and Debbie Stauffer of Florida, Connie Sue and Gus Lienhart of New York, Stanley and Jenn Stauffer of New Jersey, Tina Samson of Tennessee, Mark and Lisa Glick Samson of New Jersey, Nancy and Ted Urquhart of Texas, Sammy Bloom (deceased), Suzanne and Bart Edises of California and Lisa Williams of California.
Shirlee was born in Lansdale on May 30, 1931. During High School she was a cheerleader and played field hockey. Shirlee graduated from Lansdale High School in 1949. After graduation she married her high school sweetheart, Frank Nicolino. Shirlee and Frank had their son Ricky, who tragically died in 1960 at the age of five.
Shirlee worked at Lansdale Tube, American Tile, and Teleflex before she started at Merck Sharp & Dohme Federal Credit Union (MSDFCU). Her time at the credit union was a great American success story. Shirlee started as a teller and (with only a high school diploma) as one of only two employees. Her last three years she served as President of the Credit Union. In all she spent 37 years there, saying that the Credit Union got in her blood. Shirlee was a hard worker and someone that her superiors could trust and her employees could respect and emulate. She loved to have a good time. When Frank was alive that included travel to see family in California, New York and Florida, and trips to Hawaii, Canada and Mexico. Of course the travel also included trips to Atlantic City and Las Vegas. After Frank was gone she continued her travel to see family and even made it to Italy with family. Other fun activities included driving with her nieces and nephews in her '60s T-Bird that had no air conditioning, with the windows up and pretending they were perfectly comfortable. Shirlee brightened every room she entered.
Frank and Shirlee lived for many years on Fifth Street in Lansdale in Frank's childhood home. They shared their lives with many wonderful longtime friends who brought them much love and support over the years. After Frank's death Shirlee moved to the Dock Woods community. She enjoyed close to 20 years living there. Her last few years were buoyed by the unbelievably loving care she received from the staff in the Country Cottage wing of Dock Woods.
Shirlee was a spiritual woman. She was baptized Protestant as a child and later attended the Catholic Church with Frank, as well as her close friends. She believed in The Lord God and the Holy Spirit. She will be buried next to her beloved husband Frank and their beloved son Ricky. She loved her family dearly. Her two sisters were especially important to her. She loved to spend time with her nieces and nephews as well and found time to visit them as often as she could. Her family will deeply miss her and treasure their memories of her.
