Thelma H. Brunner passed from this life on July 7, 2025, at the age of 96. Born in Brewer, Maine, on February 2, 1929, she was the daughter of Frank E. and Lillian M. Hardy. Thelma's vibrant life was marked by compassion, curiosity, and a devotion to education, family, and the natural world.

She is predeceased by her brother, Clayton M. Hardy, and lovingly remembered by her sister, Kathleen L. Nutter; stepdaughters, Lori J. Sweeney (and husband Dan) and Lisa J. Radcliff (and husband Doug); three grandsons; nine great-grandchildren; and a circle of nieces and nephews who will forever hold her memory dear.

A proud alumna, Thelma graduated from Brewer High School in 1947 and later earned her BA in Education, Summa cum Laude, from the University of Maine in 1972. It was here that her passion for archaeology was kindled, her fondest memories shaped by digs alongside classmates—moments that spoke to her lifelong love of learning and discovery.

Thelma dedicated her career to shaping young minds, first as an elementary school teacher in Otis, Maine, and later as a principal in Dedham, Maine. She also served faithfully as secretary and clerk for the East Orrington Congregational Church. After relocating to Pennsylvania, Thelma worked as an executive secretary.

Her life's journey included two marriages: first to Robert E. McCarver, and later to A. Frederick Brunner of Lansdale, PA. With Fred, she shared 25 years filled with camping, canoeing, and joyful gatherings at their Rehoboth Beach retreat and Maine camp, always surrounded by friends and family.

After retiring from Merck, Sharp, & Dohme in 1991, Thelma found fulfillment in community service and song with the North Pennsmen Barbershop chorus as a Pennette, the Lansdale Community Concerts, and the St. John's UCC choir. Her heart found solace in nature—gardening, birdwatching, and cherishing all creatures, but none more than her beloved cat, Frankie, her loyal companion and confidant.

While there will not be services held, her friends and family are encouraged to share their special memories of Thelma on the Huff and Lakjer website. To honor her memory with a donation, please consider Lansdale Community Concerts, Inc. or a charity of your choice.

Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, Lansdale, is handling arangements.
