It was how Ted Liebmann lived his life and for the goodness he provided that we celebrate his life. Ted passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 22, at his daughter's house at the age of 91.
His life was good. He was raised in a loving family in southwest Philadelphia, served in the Army, graduated from Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science, married a beautiful, talented woman and raised three successful children.
He worked at Merck his entire career, taught Sunday school and led the church youth group. He was an avid tennis player, golfer and loved fishing in the surf at Ocean City. He vacationed around the world.
But it's the way he treated others that stands out: courtesy, respect, generosity and humor. He treated every person with dignity and sought accommodation for those who needed help achieving their goals.
Our eyes rolled every time he approached strangers to initiate a conversation. He did this a lot. And we don't know what he said, but it always left them laughing and brightening their day.
He was a man who held doors open, fixed our mother a plate and seldom said something negative about any one. He was a gentleman, a participant and a listener. And while some judge him for the tragedy he brought upon his family 25 years ago, these are the things we will remember.
Ted is predeceased by his parents, Charles and Helen; his wife, Ida Jane (Snook); and a grandchild, Janine Leah Knechel. He is survived by his daughter, Dr. Marian L. Knechel (Al) of Pottstown; and two sons, Ted (Noreen) of Doylestown, and Tom, of Warrington.
Ted was loved by his five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, July 8th at Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, 701 Derstine Ave., Lansdale. A visitation will precede the service at 10:30 AM. The service may be livestreamed at https://youtu.be/D4hZrewzwaY
