Thomas J. Mahoney, Jr., of Philadelphia, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2025, at the age of 77 after a courageous battle with Parkinson's Disease. Born in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, on May 26, 1948, Tom lived a life defined by dedication to his profession and community.
Tom graduated from LaSalle University in 1970. Tom's professional career spanned decades of distinction in the field of tax and financial consulting. He held partner roles at Arthur Andersen and KPMG, and was a director at the Fairman Group, earning respect from clients and colleagues alike for his integrity, intellect, creativity and professionalism. He remained closely connected to his alma mater and previously
served on LaSalle's President's Advisory Council with pride and was inducted into the De LaSalle Society in 2011.
Tom's love for the arts was evident in his generous service on the Boards of Directors for Opera Philadelphia, The Wilma Theater and The Arts and Business Council. A man of insatiable curiosity, he was an avid reader and enthusiastic world traveler, always eager to explore new cultures, and perspectives. Tom also loved spending time at the Jersey Shore.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Bok Hwan Kim; his son, Thomas J. Mahoney, III and his partner, Stacy Maillie and son, Colin Best; his son, Sean M. Mahoney and his wife Diane and granddaughters, Allison Mahoney and Rachel Mahoney; his siblings, Michael (Christine), Denise Dills (Patrick), James, John (Regan) and Andrew (Pam). Tom was predeceased by his parents, Thomas J. Mahoney and Anne P. Mahoney (nee Lannon) whose values and love helped shape the man he became. He was also predeceased by his wife from a prior marriage, Bridgid Kelly, the mother of his two sons.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Saint Denis Roman Catholic Church in Havertown, Pennsylvania. Interment will follow at Saint Denis Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Tom's memory to the Parkinson's Foundation (https://www.parkinson.org).
Tom Mahoney leaves behind a legacy of wisdom, professionalism, compassion, and service. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
Arrangements are entrusted to Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, Lansdale.
