Thomas Joseph Mcbride, Jr.

Thomas J. McBride, Jr., 76, of Lansdale and formerly Bensalem, passed away Tuesday, April 4, 2017. He was the devoted husband of Mary Ann (Amenhauser) McBride, whom he married on August 12, 1967 and shared 49 years of marriage.

Born in Philadelphia in 1940, he was a son of the late Helen (Knab) & Thomas J. McBride, Sr.

Tom was a lifelong salesman who started his career in the luggage department of John Wanamaker, in Center City. He later worked at Robinson Luggage before developing his entrepreneurial skills by opening State & Station Deli with his wife. Tom also ran a successful catering business before moving into woodworking. Tom ended his sales career selling handmade crafts to local shore points.

Tom's warm personality and easygoing demeanor allowed him to make friends easily and find success in his work. But Tom's most important role was being a husband and father, then a Poppy. There was nothing more important to him than his family. He loved taking unplanned adventures in the family station wagon, usually leaving in the middle of the night with just a map. Tom's dream of owning an RV was eventually realized. He enjoyed taking trips to visit family and trips to the beach.

A lifelong DIY-er, Tom was always working on a home improvement project. He was known to recruit anyone who happened to be at the house at the time (whether they volunteered to help or not).

Tom was a true Philadelphia native. He loved the Phillies, the shore, pizza and birch beer at Mack & Manco, pound cake at Stocks Bakery, pretzels and hoagies.

Tom's smile, his sense of humor, and his loving devotion to family are the wonderful gifts he gave to his children and grandchildren, who in turn, will proudly continue his legacy.

In addition to his wife Mary Ann, Thomas is survived by his children, Thomas J. McBride, III, of Lansdale; Mary Ann B. Moffett (James), of Lansdale; John J. McBride (Megan), of Perkasie; Michael J. McBride, of Lansdale; his grandchildren, Thomas J. "T.J." McBride, IV, Ethan Patrick McBride, Samantha Marie "Sammi" McBride, and Kaitlyn Anne McBride. He was preceded in death by his daughter in law, Ilene Michelle Shinbein McBride.

Relatives and friends will be received on Monday, April 10, after 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel at St. Mary Center, 701 Lansdale Avenue, Lansdale, and are invited to attend his Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in St. John Neumann Cemetery, Chalfont.
