Julia M. "Judy" Truscott died peacefully in her home on October 28 at the age of 81. She was one of nine children born in Jermyn, PA. She is survived by two siblings, Robert Speicher and Florence States. She is also survived by her three children: Neil Truscott (Leslie); William Ray Truscott, Jr. (Cindy); and Karen Rainer (Paul); as well as four grandchildren: Ian, Graham, Hannah and Taylor. She is preceded in death by her former husband, William Truscott M.D.
Judy graduated from Jermyn High School in 1953. Upon graduation, Judy enrolled in St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Carbondale, PA and graduated in 1956. Her nursing career started at St. Peter's Hospital in Raritan, NJ, as a Medical Surgical Staff nurse from 1956 to 1958. At that time she was also was working at Germantown Hospital, Germantown, PA, as a Nursery and Pediatrics Staff nurse, and then moved to St. Christopher's Hospital as an Operating Room Scrub nurse until 1961. At this time Judy temporarily retired from nursing to raise her three children.
In 1976 she returned to nursing and worked at Angeline Nursing Home; North Wales, PA, as Director of Nursing until 1982. She than moved on to Hatfield Mennonite Home; Hatfield, PA, for about a year before finally ending up at Dock Terrace Nursing Home; Lansdale, PA, as Director of Nursing form 1982 to 1994. Judy then retired from full-time nursing and continued as a part-time Evening Charge Nurse at Dock Meadows until 2007. She was a beloved nurse to many geriatric patients.
While she was raising her children, Judy also volunteered at the North Penn School District as a mentor, as well as a participant in "Art goes to School".
Judy's favorite hobby was cooking. In addition to cooking, Judy had an extensive collection of giraffes, figurines and paintings. Standing 5 foot one in her stocking feet, Judy quoted that she liked giraffes "because they were tall".
Judy was a loving mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, and sister. Her generosity, graciousness, and genuine love for her family and friends were her most endearing traits; it is for these qualities that she will be most fondly remembered.
A celebration of Judy's life will be held Saturday, November 12 from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. in the Clubhouse at Hidden Springs Community, 355 Kings Pond Lane, Souderton, PA 18964.
