Dr. Alvin M. Maurice, 65, of Lansdale, entered into Heaven on Friday, June 25, 2021 after a hard fought battle with glioblastoma brain cancer. He was the beloved husband of Terri A. (Arch) Maurice for 41 years.
Born July 14, 1955 in Chicago, Illinois, he was a son of the late Charles and Frances (Nadolse) Maurice.
Al was an avid cyclist and photographer. He also enjoyed walking the family dogs, Bailey and Guinness, working crossword puzzles with Terri, gardening, and traveling. Al was known for his positive attitude, friendliness, passion for life, and sense of humor (mainly his corny Dad jokes). He was always ready to lend a helping hand.
Al joined Rohm and Haas in 1982 after completing his PhD in Physical Chemistry from University of Illinois. Over the years he became a technical expert in polymer science and emulsion polymerization. Al was also a valued mentor to many people, offering advice and encouragement. After Dow acquired Rohm and Haas, Al continued to work in Coating Materials. He was promoted to Dow Research Fellow in 2015. Al retired on April 30, 2018.
During his career, Al was an inventor on numerous patents and author of over 100 research reports. A 2012 book, Inventors at Work; The Mind and Motivation Behind Modern Inventions by Brett Stern includes a chapter on Al covering his perspectives as an inventor and leader. The highlight of Al's career was being part of the Dow team that won a prestigious American Chemical Society's Heroes of Chemistry Award for the development of pre composite polymers that enable greener and higher performing architectural house paints in 2017.
Along with his wife, Terri, Al is survived by two daughters, Amy R. McKnett (Kyle) and Alison Beach (Tyler); and two brothers, Sebastian Maurice (Lois) and Charles Maurice (Tammie).
Al was preceded in death by an infant sister, Josephine.
Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. on July 2, 2021 at Trinity Lutheran Church , 1000 W. Main Street, Lansdale, with the memorial service to follow. Interment will be in the Trinity Lutheran Columbarium.
Contributions in Al's name can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, or the SPCA.
