June 15, 1949 — September 12, 2023

James E. Stevenson III, 74, of Lansdale, died Tuesday, September 12, 2023. He was the beloved husband of Lois (Ehrhardt) Stevenson, his wife of 52 years.

Born June 15, 1949, in Philadelphia and raised in Oreland, he was the son of the late Dolores (Borie) and James E. Stevenson, Jr.

Mr. Stevenson graduated from Springfield Township (Montco) High School in 1967 and Gettysburg College in 1971. He earned a master's degree from Temple University. Jim had the privilege of being a teacher for 36 years, retiring from Methacton School District in 2007 after 34 years of service there. He was a member of St. John's UCC, Lansdale, and formerly a longtime member of Christ UMC, Lansdale.

Jim was an avid fan of Philadelphia sports teams, especially the Phillies and their AA farm team, the R Phils. In his younger days he loved long-distance running and cycling. After his retirement, he spent many happy hours playing golf with his friends. He also was a Civil War enthusiast and a voracious reader. His favorite vacations were spent with family at the beaches in Ocean City, NJ, and Sanibel, Florida. His most joyous moments were those he spent with his grandsons, Oscar and Charlie.

In addition to his wife and grandchildren, Jim is survived by his sons, Luke R. Stevenson (Leslie) of Upper Darby, and Matthew C. Stevenson (Christy) of Harrisburg;  and his sister, Joy Rogers (Nathaniel) of Chicago.

Relatives and friends may call between 9:30 and 10:45 a.m. Friday, September 22, 2023, at St. John's UCC, 500 W. Main St., Lansdale, PA 19446. The Celebration of Life Service will begin at 11:00 a.m.   Burial will be private in Christ UMC Columbarium.

Arrangements are by the Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, Lansdale.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation in Jim's name to either St John's UCC, address above, or Christ UMC, 1020 S Valley Forge Rd, Lansdale, PA 19446.
